South African Airways to begin direct flights to Mainland China

The South African national airline announced it will begin flying direct between Johannesburg and Guangzhou, China. The flights will begin on September 18, 2019.

The Johannesburg-Guangzhou route will especially connect business and corporate travelers to the heart of China’s manufacturing region. This will be the only direct service between the two cities. Currently, SAA flies to Hong Kong and this service will be increased to four times a week.

There will also be cargo operations to complement passenger operations and cater to the heavy trade traffic.

The Johannesburg-Guangzhou route will be flown three times a week and will be operated with the Airbus A340-300 aircraft. The flight time is approximately 13 hours 40 minutes, with morning arrivals in Johannesburg and afternoon arrivals in Guangzhou.

The roundtrip price for an Economy Saver fare in October on this route will cost about $800.
