News: IHG signs a franchise deal for African growth

The Story

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) have announced a master development agreement with Valor Hospitality Partners Africa, the African subsidiary of a global company that manages hospitality projects in America, the UK, Middle East, South Africa, and South East Asia. Valor manages branded and independent hotels globally, including IHG-branded hotels in America and the UK.

The agreement will see the rollout of franchised hotels over the next 10 years, in countries like South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Kenya.

Industry Take

Speaking on the announcement, Pascal Gauvin, Managing Director India, Middle East, and Africa, affirmed that the signing would further IHG’s growth ambitions in Africa, adding approximately 1,000 rooms to the group’s African portfolio. He said, “this will allow us to cater to the increasing number of diverse domestic and international travelers looking for quality branded accommodation in Africa.”
